About Automattika Productions

Founded by Matthew Kyle Westmeyer, Automattika Productions represents over two decades of expertise in recording, sound design, and music technology education. Matthew’s work bridges the worlds of studio production, live sound, multimedia design, and technology-driven performance — merging analog craftsmanship with cutting-edge digital innovation.

Early Career and Studio Roots

Matthew began his professional career in 2003 when he founded Jam Sessions Studio, LLC in Huntsville, Alabama. From 2003 to 2007, he recorded and produced a wide variety of artists including Daikaiju, Timebombs, Sandia, The Group Hug, Hoodfellas, and numerous others across the region.

During this era, he also gained invaluable experience as a live sound engineer and road technician, working on both local and touring productions while refining his expertise in hybrid analog/digital recording systems.

(Discography available upon request — includes regional and independent releases in punk, rock, and experimental genres.)

Teaching & Building Music Technology Education

From 2003 to 2016, Matthew taught and built foundational music technology programs at Calhoun Community College, introducing hundreds of students to audio engineering, MIDI production, and synthesis.

In 2016, he joined the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), where he continues to teach and develop music technology courses including Intro to Music Technology, Music Production, Computer Ensemble, and Advanced Sound Design.

Under his guidance, UAH’s music technology program has expanded into a thriving community that integrates engineering, performance, and multimedia arts.

Recording, Sound Design, and Multimedia Innovation

Matthew’s creative and technical reach extends far beyond the classroom. His professional credits include post-production, mixing, and sound design for a range of projects, including:

  • “Space Cruises and Planet Tours” — a full-length radio drama for WLRH Public Radio (Huntsville) featuring original sound design and spatial audio mixing.
  • “Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom (N3RD)” — an original theatrical soundtrack created in surround sound for UAH Theatre’s adaptation, available on Automattika’s Bandcamp.
  • The Haunted Piano Concert Series — an immersive multimedia production combining Yamaha Disklavier MIDI control, holographic projection, and synchronized sound design.

His work in these productions has been noted for its seamless fusion of music, technology, and narrative storytelling.

Innovation During the COVID-19 Era

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Matthew converted the entire UAH Music Department into a multi-camera live-streaming studio, ensuring that students could continue to perform, record, and graduate on time.

He implemented synchronized audio capture systems, live broadcast routing, and hybrid classroom technology — setting a new standard for academic music production.

This system remains in operation today, providing professional-quality recording and streaming capabilities for student recitals and ensemble performances.

Piano Technology and International Collaboration

Matthew has spent years developing advanced MIDI and AV workflows for the Yamaha DCFX Disklavier grand piano, integrating it into cross-campus performances and remote lessons.

He has facilitated multi-university connections, allowing performances and masterclasses to be shared between institutions across the U.S. and internationally through synchronized networked MIDI and audio systems.

Leadership in Live Production and Engineering

Today, Matthew directs a production team responsible for over 100 concerts and events per year, ranging from:

  • Student and faculty recitals
  • Ensemble and chamber performances
  • Corporate and community events
  • Guest artist concerts featuring world-class performers

Each production is supported by professional-grade recording and broadcast systems, designed and maintained under his supervision to ensure reliability and artistic excellence.

The Automattika Philosophy

At the heart of Automattika Productions is a simple mission:

To make technology serve creativity — not the other way around.

Whether crafting immersive soundscapes, mentoring the next generation of engineers, or designing hybrid performance systems, Matthew continues to shape the evolving frontier of modern music technology.
